about sam
hello there and thanks for taking the time to check this page out. my name is sam, i'm the creator of this website, and i'm a junior in high school. fun fact about me, i actually skipped 3rd grade, so i'm younger than what a junior should actually be. which is why i ask all of the colleges that i'm interested in if anything would be different about the application process if you were to apply as a minor. this is all because, you know, i'll be entering college as a minor.
why am i into technology? i was exposed to the internet fairly early in life. my mom wasn't all that tech savvy, but my dad had been planning on majoring in computer science before i was born and was just generally a very tech-y guy. i'm not really sure how else to describe him. i started making games using scratch, rpg maker, and gamemaker studio pretty much as soon as i was allowed to use a computer, which was surprisingly early. i could only really use rpg maker and gamemaker studio on my dad's computer, but scratch became a pretty major part of my life since it was promoted during my elementary education. unfortunately, most of the games that i made are lost to time now and spread over numerous different accounts that i have no way of remembering, but it was definitely the catalyst for my interest in programming. i started learning serious programming languages (specifically python and javascript) during my freshman year of high school, and it quickly snowballed from there. i now am fairly fluent in python and javascript, and i'd like to say i can handle myself while using java, although i am a bit rusty with it.
why am i into the medical field? i've always wanted to help the people in my life. being the child of a khmer immigrant and an african-american man, my family knows many hardships that can be faced while trying to obtain medical treatment, from not being taken seriously to even just not having the resources to treat ailments properly. that's why i want to help make the world a better place by being a doctor. my mom has always joked about me opening up a clinic and cambodia and helping people in need, but now that i'm growing older and finally have a brain that's able to understand the world's climate, that joke is slowly becoming something far more than just a simple joke. i don't have as much experience with medicine as i do with programming, but it is still something important for my future.
fun things about me
- my favorite band is fall out boy. i've been listening to them since like, 4th grade. my favorites by them are "the music or the misery", "XO", "w.a.m.s.", and "the carpal tunnel of love".

- my "backup" career is the culinary industry. if i somehow get burnt out on STEM, then culinary school it is.

- amadeus (1984) is what i consider to be the best movie of all time, and is also just my favorite! i'm going to buy a copy of dominick and eugene as soon as i get some extra cash, because tom hulce is just such a good actor.

- i am queer. i'm not a particularly big fan of labelling myself, mostly because that would take up too much of my time, but if i had to describe myself i would probably say bisexual and genderqueer. any pronouns will work, although i do present mostly femininely.
